Fort Myers tummy tucks are becoming more common every day.
Pregnancy, weight gain, and weight loss take a tremendous toll on
a woman’s abdomen. A cosmetic procedure called abdominoplasty or
“tummy tuck” can dramatically reduce the appearance of a
protruding abdomen. The result is a flatter abdominal profile.
Fort Myers tummy tuck surgery, an out-patient procedure takes two
to five hours. The most common technique involves a horizontal
incision across the lower abdomen just above the pubic area. Your
cosmetic surgeon will try to keep the incision within your bathing
suit lines, but this may not always be possible. An incision is
also made around the navel so that the excess skin above it can be
pulled down. The skin is separated from the abdominal wall and the
excess abdominal skin is then removed. A new opening is made for
the belly button at the proper position. The cosmetic surgeon then
pulls loose tissue from the left and right abdomen together, and
sutures it together. This will tighten the muscles to provide a
stronger abdominal wall.
When the amount of loose skin is minimal and the excess fat
deposits are located below the navel, a less extensive procedure
called a “mini abdominoplasty” may be recommended. This involves a
short horizontal incision and can sometimes avoid the incision
around the navel. Once the incisions are closed, a firm elastic
bandage is placed over the area. Any discomfort can be relieved
with medication prescribed by your surgeon. You may be up and
around in a day or two, but physical activity should be avoided
for three or four weeks. Generally, a light support garment is
worn for up to three months following a Fort Myers tummy tuck
procedure. Most patients return to work within one to three weeks
depending on the on the extent of the abdominoplasty. Although
every effort is made to minimize scarring, the scars will be
permanent, gradually fading over time.
Following your Fort Myers tummy tuck procedure, you will
immediately enjoy the flatter, firmer, thinner waist line that
you’ve always wanted!
